WordCamp Finland 2016

Welcome to WordCamp Finland 2016! It will be on April 15th in Helsinki followed by a workshop and contributor day on the 16th. Get you ticket now, I’m certain that we’ll be sold out sooner or later.

If you have never been in WordCamp here is short info what it’s all about.

WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress, the free and open source personal publishing software that powers over 75 million sites on the web. The first ever WordCamp Finland was held in Tampere in May 2015. In 2016 the event will be in Helsinki from the 15th to 16th of April.

About organizing WordCamp

We have amazing team organizing WordCamp Finland and I’m happy to be one of the organizer. Did that sound too much “American small talk”? We are not used to that here in Finland :).

We have been planning WordCamp Finland several months already and there are plenty of tasks for everyone:

  • Venue logistic
  • Sponsors
  • Budget
  • Speakers
  • Food and beverage
  • Swag (T-shirts etc.)
  • Volunteer wrangling
  • Printing
  • Design (venue brand, logo, Wapuu etc.)
  • Website maintenance
  • Publicity
  • A/V (Video recording / editing)
  • After party
  • Workshops / Contributors Day
  • Transportation and travel details
  • Public Communication (website, live tweeting in venue)
  • Ticketing
  • Stage manager in venue (laptop, audio, time)
  • Photography

There is one and the most important task missing. The main organizer Marco Martins who keeps an eye on every tasks. He also communicates to Foundation.

We have weekly meeting on Slack and it’s been better solution than Skype or Hangout. We can actually keep the meeting in one hour. Sometimes we go wild and even have a live meeting!

WordCamp organizers 2016

We are having a live meeting. Much better than online meeting on Slack.

There is one downside of being organizer though. I can’t apply speaking. But then again I can have workshops. And I can always apply speaking to other WordCamps, like I did apply to WordCamp Europe. Keep your fingers crossed.
