YOU BROKE MY SITE!!!!!!!!???? AFTER UPDATE ALL MY MODIFICATIONS ARE GONE, PLEASE HELP ME FIX IT!!!!!!!

This is not a story of Johnny Rotten. And story doesn’t start with line “once upon a time”. And it definitely doesn’t have a happy ending. Still wanna read it?

Once upon a time there was a. I started out using wordpress.com blogs and boy, they were easy to maintain. All you had to do was create some content. But after a while I wanted full control of my theme and layout. So I installed my first wordpress.org software in my own domain and I was happy as a songbird. I went through all the things in the admin about million times and tried to understand how WordPress worked.

After that I fell in love with a beautiful theme. And in the next day I saw even more beautiful theme. I must have her! And I did, it was free. This happened me day after day but finally I settled down. I found what I was looking for. But after a while I wanted to know how it worked and find the inner beauty of her. I found style.css. What if I just change one little thing, maybe try different background color. She didn’t seem to mind at all. Next day I changed a link color and we were having fun!

She only spoke english words and I really wanted to teach some finnish words to my theme. I went through all the template files and translated strings to finnish. And once again she didn’t seem to mind at all. I love her.

Aaa there is a notice that I can update my theme. I will most certainly do it right away, who knows what cool features there might be. Okay her we go, updating the theme and go visit some of my post.

WHAT THE F…SOMEONE BROKE MY SITE!!!!!!!!???? MY THEME LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME AS IT DID BEFORE!!! UGLY. AND ALL ENGLISH.

I didn’t understand what was going on, I was confused. Who ever made this theme he must pay for this big time. I know how WordPress works, I’m a WordPress Ninja for crying out loud!

After I calmed myself down and started to google what was going on, I realized I had done everything in the wrong way. You should never, ever modify parent theme files. You will lose theme when you update the theme. WordPress have this create concept of Child Themes. Always make your modifications to child theme. Lesson learnt.

But I was still sad. I never saw her again.
